Redfern Jarjum College
A place to learn, belong and shine.
On Gadigal Country in Redfern, we provide fee-free Jesuit primary education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. Learning, culture and practical care come together to support every child.
Our story
Jarjum opened in Redfern in 2013 to provide a different pathway for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children whose needs were not being met in mainstream schooling. Children can now complete their primary education here, from Kindergarten to Year 6.
Our school sits on a site with a long history of community care, including the work of Mum Shirl and Father Ted Kennedy. Their legacy is part of the story that continues here today.
The Jesuit commitment to care for the whole person shapes our approach. We support each child's learning, wellbeing, identity and relationships. Our motto, Gili, means "to shine".
Culture & learning
Children bring their own strengths, interests and experiences to Jarjum. Our teachers work with families to understand each child and build learning around their needs, with a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy.
Care & community
Learning is connected to what happens throughout a child's day. Our practical care and strong relationships help children arrive ready to learn and feel supported at school.
Daily transport, nutritious meals, uniforms and learning materials help remove practical barriers to taking part in school.
Pastoral care, health checks and access to specialist support connect children's wellbeing with their learning.
We work alongside parents and carers, sharing progress, listening to their perspectives and connecting families with practical support.
Creative programs, sport, cultural experiences and community partnerships give children opportunities to explore their interests and build confidence.
Our people
Led by Principal Kath Zerounian, our teachers and support staff work together to help every child learn and grow. Families, Elders, volunteers and community partners each play an important part in school life.
Our Board provides governance and oversight, supporting the school's mission and long-term sustainability. Our annual reports share our work, priorities and financial information.
